I have just finished reading this book. Wow! What a fantastic read for crime fans! Outback is written by Australian author, Patricia Wolf and is her fictional debut. This book immerses you into the gritty world of outback crime noir. Patricia weaves a labyrinth of twists and turns pulling you deeper into this atmospheric storyline which follows the disappearance of two backpackers. The story is set in the harsh beauty of outback Queensland. We follow DS Lucas Walker who has returned to his hometown on compassionate leave. Unofficially, he has been directed to investigate the disappearance of Berndt and Rita. This is definitely a page turner with an intense subplot running underneath - with so much suspense and intrigue that I can’t wait to read the next one. No wonder Patricia was shortlisted for the CWA John Creasey New Blood Dagger Award 2023. If you like Jane Harper or Chris Hammer then try this book. This book is available to buy 29/8/23.
