The War Nurses by Anthea Hodgson

The War Nurses by Anthea Hodgson

Matthew Vitagliano ·

Minnie and Margot, Australian Nurses left Australia bound for Singapore.  They along with other Australian nurses left Australian shores full of adventure and excitement.  These nurses were eager to do their part for the war effect and help the fallen soldiers.

This book is based upon their work in Singapore and their escape from the advancing Japanese army aboard the Vyner Brooke.  The Vyner Brooke was  bombed  attempting to flee Singapore when the Japanese attacked.  It is a story of friendship, determination to survive and good old-fashioned Aussie bravery in the face of the enemy.  It is funny in parts and a tear-jerker  - read it with a box of tissues.  I did.  I loved it and couldn't stop reading, but be warned I did need a few tissues.

Anthea has done an excellent job of capturing the scenery and the feelings of these nurses, in a story which is close to her heart.  Anthea's book is available in April.
